“Excellent holiday venue for all year round”

The property was excellent, well fitted out with all modern equipment including TVs and Wi-Fi.

The house is very spacious and full of history with most of the rooms containing antique furniture, pictures and knick knacks.

The garden is massive surrounded by a variety of shrubs and secure for dogs to roam around in.

The location and surrounding areas is particularly dog-friendly for both eating out and beaches.

Specifically Recommend:

A massive property suitable for at least two families with children and lots of dogs.

This house is simply stunning both in setting and character. There is nothing you could ask for that Helen & Sue do not provide.

Summary:

“A very welcoming dog-friendly cottage decorated and kept to a very high standard”

We have just returned from a perfect week spent on the North Norfolk Coast. The cottage was beautiful, just off of a chocolate box. The gardens were stocked with wonderful flowers, shrubs and fruit trees and was perfect for a glass of wine in the afternoons. We played croquet on the lawn and felt very posh!!

The property itself was very warm and welcoming and had everything we required. The large farmhouse kitchen and snug was a particular favourite of the dogs. The bedrooms, beautifully decorated were comfortable and had plenty of room.

There was always lots of hot water and the heating worked well although we didn’t really use it as the weather was great. The local pub was great for lunches and the walk to the beach not too long for elderly dogs and grandparents. We loved it!

Specifically Recommend:

A leisurely walk to the sandy, dog-friendly beach via the pub!

Summary:

“Wow, we definitely want to come back to this house again”

In a word WOW. I knew that the standard of houses let under the East Ruston banner would be high and this lived up to expectation! The house and gardens were lovely and it ticked our criteria to be close to the beach. The location was the epitome of English life, the peace broken only by cricket on the field opposite with the gentle thud of leather on willow, bell practice one evening a week and the sounds of the sea wafting across the field that separated house from the cliff!

There was a lovely cake waiting for our arrival and some supplies sufficient to get you started unlike some places we have stayed in. Dog-friendly really is Dog-friendly with a dog bed provided, water bowl ready for them when they arrived. The downstairs lobby area was perfect for a night time bed area and since they were allowed in the snug, that’s where we all tended to sit in the evening.

We did have an incident with a branch falling off a tree but the owner of the house and her family were on it before we even knew it had happened and you can rest assured that their priority was making sure we were not inconvenienced during our stay.

Bedrooms were clean and comfortable and the house was full of beautiful period pieces We will definitely be back (I just wish we could live in a house like this for ever)

Specifically Recommend:

Perfect for family of all ages and dogs. Loads of space to spread out, plenty of hidden gems

“Thatchers is a fabulous house and garden for a group of ten”

Thatchers is a beautiful house and garden. We particularly loved the garden with four active children. There is loads of space for sporty games as well as lots of sheltered corners for adults to read and relax.

The delicious homemade cake was an unexpected delight on arrival. The layout of the house worked very well for us with lots of space for grandparents to have some peace and quiet when it was needed.

“Stunning and relaxing”

Everyone loved the cottage, garden and surrounding village. We enjoyed trips to the Broads, Cromer, Horsey Bay (where we saw 200 seals), and Ipswich Town FC. Would love to return one day!

Beach walks to Bacton were great as well as local pub and owl sanctuary. Especially enjoyed surprise handling of ferrets at owl sanctuary.

Be Aware:

Only piece of advice would be to look at trip hazard due to fireplace hearth in snug area off kitchen. Did not ruin stay one bit.

“A tranquil haven!”

We had a super week, Thatchers was the perfect getaway house for us all. So peaceful, comfortable and relaxing. The house is spacious and very well equipped.

The wonderful weather allowed us to make the most of the beautiful gardens belonging to the property and enjoy long walks into neighbouring villages. Ideally situated to visit Norwich and other Norfolk towns such as Cromer and Holt.

A nice surprise to receive a delicious homemade cake, chocolate bunnies and vases of fresh daffodils!

Specifically Recommend:

The peace and tranquility of the house and the village it is situated in. Perfect for relaxing.

Local Gems:

Walks along the local beach and across the footpaths.

Cromer, Norwich (use Postwick Park and Ride), boat rental at Potter Heigham and Holt all worth visiting.

Summary:

“A holiday not to be missed!”

Spacious accommodation with additional bathrooms. Beautiful large enclosed garden which our dogs loved exploring and playing in. Quiet location few minutes’ stroll to beach and local pub.

The owner left a homemade sponge, chocolates and milk also fresh flowers were in downstairs rooms which was a kind gesture. Easy walking mostly flat lanes one slight hill.

Specifically Recommend:

We arranged a Tesco grocery delivery to arrive the Saturday morning, our arrival day, to save space in the car. Unfortunately the driver couldn’t find the house even though the owner was there cleaning and waiting to receive. It did arrive the next day as ordered. Recommend if pre-ordering supplies ensure they have correct post code and owners’ mobile number as well as yours

Be Aware:

The property is suited to families, groups of friends, dog owners and those with mobility issues. There is a ground floor bedroom which can be made up as a twin or double room and it has a large wet room en-suite. The only downfall is there are no grab rails or toilet frame to assist those with mobility problems - I have addressed this to the owner

Local Gems:

Recommend visit to local pub Hillend House Real Ale house - open fire, good food daily including breakfast. Carvery Sundays -very friendly, dogs welcome

Bacton Woods - there are three circular walks for all abilities with most paths suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs - the dogs loved it

Beach walk at Happisburgh within walking distance from house. Good sand, few stones, clean

Cromer - beach walk, crazy golf, arcade had lovely fish n chips sitting on sea wall

Hire a boat at Wroxham quayside and take a trip along broads. Dogs welcome

Julie W, Chelmsford, Essex - 6th April 2015

Owner’s Reply:

’’Thank you very much Julie for your review always delighted when a guest takes time to leave one. Very pleased you enjoyed the house and the area. Happisburgh is now rated number 3 in a national holiday company survey of popular places to holiday only just beaten by Windemere and Whitby and yet you wouldn’t know it as the village is so peaceful and you can often have the beach to yourselves with your dogs. Glad you enjoyed the cakes, goodies and flowers that Helen left for you she takes great pride in the house and welcoming her guests and I am certain she will take on board your constructive comments about the mobility support’’ - Sue

“The perfect family retreat”

We booked to stay at Thatchers to celebrate my birthday, and it was everything we could have hoped for. Easy to find, cosy, clean, welcoming (the cake, chocolates and food were a delicious surprise), the bedrooms were spacious and beds were comfortable, the kitchen was really well stocked with appliances etc, perfect for preparing meals for large groups, and the utility room was useful.

The garden was safe for children and dogs, and the lovely local pub is a stone’s throw away, and en-route back from the local beach. It really is the perfect holiday home and made for a relaxed and memorable holiday. We would all be very happy to return!

“Fantastic, dog-friendly house and grounds in an excellent location”

This was a return visit for us , so we already knew what a fabulous house this is. It’s large and cosy, bright and comfortable, the garden is safe for dogs. As soon as we went up the drive we could feel ourselves relaxing, and as the house comes into view, it is still a ’Wow’ moment.

We arrived to find a lovely cake (which was declared ’splendid’), chocolates, milk and tea, coffee and sugar, which was most welcome. Some holiday accommodation does not provide more than one bin liner, but Thatchers was well stocked with these.

The house is in an excellent location within the village, quiet and yet within easy walking distance of the church, pub and beach, but also in a good location to explore areas both North and South.

We ate at Hill House one night, and all enjoyed our meal, and also enjoyed a coffee after a walk on the beach, but otherwise cooked for ourselves in the evening.

We crammed a lot into our short stay, and the weather was very kind. Norfolk, and Thatchers, never disappoints !

Specifically Recommend:

We love the whole area, but wanted to see the seals, so a trip to Horsea was a must.

We also visited Neros Kitchen (in Lighthouse Lane) to treat our dog to homemade dog treats.

The lighthouse.
The beach.

It was an excellent venue for a Christmas week holiday. It is particularly spacious and well heated in all rooms. The combined kitchen, dining area and snug with under-floor heating is a particularly functional feature.

The children loved it and the dogs were easy to control on the premises and in the garden.

“Wonderful home from home”

We stayed here for a long weekend and from the moment we drove up the drive we were very happy with our choice. The house itself is lovely with some work done to refurbish the main living areas but the bedrooms are still old and full of character.

Great location within walking (15 minutes) walk of the beach, and the beach is really nice and easy to access. Property is really dog-friendly with tiled floors and rugs that can be rolled up and put aside, so keeping everything clean is no problem at all. A real home from home.

Gardens are wonderful, and completely enclosed so great fro dogs to run around in but would also be great fun for children to explore. There were some minor things that we would do differently but nothing to be concerned about and we would happily return if we ever get the chance.

What a fantastic house! It is extremely spacious with lovely furniture and a huge garden which the children particularly enjoyed. There is a lot to explore in the garden without giving too much away.

The kitchen-dining area is spacious with attached snug. Everybody in our party agreed it was a fantastic house. The welcome pack with local goodies was a really nice touch and very much appreciated by all.

The location is very quiet and peaceful, but there is lots to do in the area, from beach days to sightseeing-shopping in nearby Norwich.

Summary:

“Stunning location, beautiful, spacious, peaceful and traditional cottage. The best cottage I’ve stayed in so far!!!”

Warm welcome with lovely food and thoughtful things left for us to make us feel at home.

The property was walking distance from the sea, 10-15 minutes’ walk to Happisburgh beach, which is sandy.

The garden is absolutely massive and has a long gravelled drive which is secure and big enough for multiple vehicles.

The cricket ground is opposite with a small park and we were able to walk the dogs there. There is a coastal walk, which was nice.

There is a stair gate at the top of the stairs, which was so handy.

This property is suitable for families, dog owners, couples. So much space!!!

It was exceptionally quiet during our stay.

Would love to come back.

Specifically Recommend:

Bewilderwood

Waxham Barn

The Hosey Wind pipe

Wroxham

Cromer

Great Yarmouth

Shermingham

Sea Palling (beach)

Bacton Woods

Local Gems:

Pub - The White hart at Overstand has a beer garden (can take the dogs in there) and a play ground and a bouncy castle. Walking distance from the beach. LOVELY food.

Waxham Barn - lovely stop for a spot of lunch.

Best beaches we found - Sea Palling (get there early), Sheringham for the steam train and touristy little village-town. Happisburgh beach and lighthouse (open on Sundays) is quiet and sandy.

Bacton Woods for dog walks Bewilderwood, great outside tree top massive adventure playground, set in the forest, not far from Norwich. Both adults and kids loved this day out.

Owner’s Reply:

’’Thank you Sarah for your great review. Sounds like you are another fan of our fabulous Thatchers! It ’ s such a stunning house and ideal for families as you found. Thanks for listing all the easy to access and find local places you went too. You could go for full days out every day during a week ’ s holiday here but the nice thing about Thatchers is that it ’ s a perfect place to just relax and enjoy the space too. I particularly like a summer evening there with the sound of a cricket match being played across the road, the bell ringers practicing in the nearby church and the background sound of the sea truly English! ’ ’ - Sue

Summary:

“The home I would love to have!!”

Thatchers is an amazing house. Beautiful and very well equipped with a huge garden. Very very dog-friendly (no extra charges or limits on the number of dogs) with the added bonuses of holiday collars, beds and the loan of crates if wanted.

When we arrived there was a beautiful home made cake waiting for us.

The house is a short walk from the beach, beautiful countryside and a very nice pub - everything we look for in a holiday.

We went as an extended family group of very mixed ages and everyone agreed it was perfect!

This was the second of East Rustons properties we have stayed at and both have been fabulous. Will definitely book with them again.

Specifically Recommend:

Hiring dayboats from Wroxam

Local Gems:

Hill House pub - great food and very friendly

Small Sticks caf - great for lunch by the beach

Korner Caf (Mundesly) dog-friendly and beautiful cakes!!

En Route:

Grimes Graves - Thetford Forest - really interesting stop.

’’So glad you loved the house Sharon. Worth every penny I hope! Everyone seems to fall in love with Thatchers. The photos on the website just don’t do it justice and it’s in such a nice location too.

We’ve had everything from family groups to couples staying there and everyone feels at home. Hope you will be able to come back some day! Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review it is much appreciated’’ - Sue
