“A unique and wonderful place set in beautiful Norfolk countryside”
We absolutely loved our three day break at the beautiful and unique Wind in the Willows. Dogs are very welcome (even a selection of dog beds are provided) and Domino, our 19 month old Border Collie loved playing in the fully fenced garden.
Susan and Craig were incredibly helpful, providing info on all the best beaches, etc. Susan also made the most delicious flapjacks which she left in the Shepherd’s hut for us on our arrival. The kitchen is small but adequate and there is plenty of seating for al fresco dining.
We would thoroughly recommend Wind in the Willows and can’t wait to go back.
The very pretty Shepherd’s hut.
Dog friendliness.
Happisburgh and Waxham beaches.

“Tranquil, cosy setting that had everything for time away from the rat race”
A wonderful cosy hideaway. This beautiful Shepherd’s Hut was ideal for us as we wanted somewhere our dog would be welcome and where we could totally relax. With no television, Wi-Fi and a very intermittent phone signal it gave us just what we wanted.
Set close to The Weavers Way and central for touring North Norfolk. The owners Sue and Craig live on site and have put a lot of thought and care into Wind in the Willows there was nothing we could think of that wasn’t catered for. A radio, games, a torch, dog bed, dog treats. Wonderful home made chocolate slices in the fridge together with two pints of milk and a supply of tea, coffee and sugar in the kitchen. Deck chairs and tables and chairs in your own secure private garden. Maps and guide books and helpful tips on dog friendly pubs and beaches. These are just a few of the touches - there are many more.
Tranquil setting yet easy access to lovely beaches.
Local Gems:Butchers Arms, East Ruston, good value food, friendly landlord and welcoming locals and dog-friendly. Just be aware it is cash or cheques only.
The Hill House Inn, Happisburgh dog-friendly and lovely food and again very friendly.
Sea Palling beach where dogs are welcomed in designated area.
Horsey Gap wonderful beaches where you can watch the Seals. Dogs on leads

“A break with a difference - a great experience!”
The Wind in the Willows is such a beautiful cosy Shepherds hut with a very comfy bed. It has a sink and electricity and two comfy chairs and a table. There was enough space for our two dogs too.
Just over a few stepping stones, you find the compact yet well equiped kitchen - everything you need for two. The shower room with a loo, basin and towels is tiny again, but all in good clean working order - all you need for a glamping style break.
When the weather is good it’s a lovely place to sit outside and have breakfast, lunch or even a meal outside too.
The garden is enclosed and gated.
Peaceful and relaxing and a lovely warm welcome and farewell from owners!
Try Sues ’flapjacks they’re delicious!
Be Aware:There are a couple of duck and chickens but enclosed so doggies can’t get to them.
Local Gems:A walk along Weavers Way to the old Station Gate House is worth doing, it takes you to the Butchers Arms pub where you can get a good pint and rest before walking back - the instructions can be found in the hut along with many other walks, this one is practically on the door step. Took us abut 45 minutes but at a leisurely pace. Local homemade jams and veg can be bought along the way, outside a few cottages where you can leave money in honesty boxes.

“I could find nothing negative to write all all about the property or the area. All excellent”
We came to relax, walk and explore and in particular spend time on the beaches. Beautiful place, the beaches were plentiful, clean and sands gorgeous. Horsey in particular where we walked as guided to the seals amazing. The Wind in the Willows was situated near to the coast and all beaches accessible by car and some by bike.
The Hut was out of this world. Set in a large garden fully fenced, private and quiet. The facilities were immaculate. The bed extremely comfy. The kitchen so well-equipped. Attention to detail was very good. Even a dog bed.
Just on the doorstep were walks everywhere. Hosts live next door and were on hand giving advice on whatever you needed to ask if wanted. We were given hand written list on beaches, where they were and what facilities they had. Lovely cafe at Winterton beach open 8.30am.
The shepherds hut would be great for a memorable romantic few days or for adult with child and a single person wanting to relax ... oh .. lots of places to eat.
100 per cent recommendation everything was perfect.
Horsey beach. Water pump at Horsey. Winterton sands and just to walk the surrounding areas.
We only stayed three days and spent most of our time on beaches all perfect and never over-crowded.
The nearest beach at Happisburgh - two miles away - also had two seals swimming in the sea at the edge.

“Truly fab place to stay !”
A truly magical, fantastic place to stay. Very well thought out with tasteful and quality fixtures and fittings, bedding and towels. Thoughtful little extras such as torches, tea lights, extra blankets, cushions for outside chairs and Susan’s home made goodies chilling in the fridge.
There are about 4-5 steps up to the Shepherds hut, but banisters on both sides. Kitchen and shower room on ground level. It was extremely peaceful and quiet in the deep countryside, but near to a town (Stalham) that has great local shops and a supermarket
We have had lots of UK holidays and breaks and always look for something a bit different and special - this is certainly one of our best finds ! Would certainly recommend for romantic break, honeymoon or just a place to get away from the stress and demands of everyday life. We will be back.
Extremely helpful and knowledgeable owners, who are happy to answer any questions about the area and your stay. They own beautiful property that they are happy to share with guests and take great pride in providing comfort and quality for your stay, to ensure you have a memorable holiday or short break
Local Gems:Loved a shop called Truly Local on Stalham High Street, beautiful in-season pea shoots, lovely pork burgers and sausage for the BBQ.
Home grown herbs, jams, chutneys and free range eggs readily available from locals’ houses - look out for stands and signs on ends of drives
Blakeney, Cley and Salthouse - beautiful villages by the sea and salt marshes

“Totally charming and unique!”
We stayed at the Wind in the Willows caravan for four nights with our two dogs Ben and Max in July. What a pleasure. It is a charming caravan. Perfect for us. Really comfortable bed and such cute decor. The separate kitchen and toilet had everything we needed.
The garden was pretty with a picnic table to eat our meals at and it is completely secure, very important for us as our Jack Russells will find a gap anywhere and be off exploring in the blink of an eye!
The nearby dog-friendly beaches are beautiful and not crowded even in July so are great for letting the dogs run and play. It is a beautiful, unique place to stay and they genuinely want you to bring your dogs with you. We could not fault it. Stay .... You won’t be disappointed.

“An amazing experience”
An amazing experience.
Absolutely loved this place. The owners were brilliant in being close enough to be helpful but not too close they were overpowering. They were great in offering advice on what to go and see.
The place itself had all the facilities you would need and was well equipped.
Couldn’t fault the place and found it to be real value for money.
We will certainly go back there again in the future and would recommend this place to anyone.

“Total bliss”
Total bliss! So much so that we found it hard to get going on our first day as it was so wonderful and relaxing having breakfast outside and listening to the birds.
The garden is fully enclosed and Scrumpy (dog) loved boggling about in the garden. She was fascinated by the ducks and chickens and thought that they might want to play with her as she kept play bowing at them - fortunately they are very well fenced in.
The hut is absolutely gorgeous and is so cosy and comfortable. It is fantastic having the Weavers Way so close and it was very easy to walk to Stalham using it. We will definitely be returning.
Peace and tranquillity
Local Gems:The Butchers Arms is very dog-friendly and the food is fab with ginormous portions!
We would also recommend the Broads museum in Statham, this is also dog-friendly and obviously run by someone with a great sense of humour.
A must to visit in Stalham is Truly Local which is a dog-friendly shop selling amazing everything! And also the pet shop.

“Lovely short break in a unique setting in North Norfolk”
Fantastic location to walk the Weavers Way....we chose to walk South for 15 miles and then caught the bus back to Stalham.....we were blessed with glorious weather too. On arrival we did a shorter 6 Mileish walk at Horsey...we parked at the Mill and headed to the beach where we saw a large colony of seals!!
The hut was cosy and comfy and has everything that is required. An enclosed garden so safe for the dog too. Local pubs were very good and dog-friendly, the food at The Star Inn was very good and worth a visit.
Overall a brilliant short break.
Take your walking shoes!!!

“My stunning stay in Norfolk”
I had high hopes for this getaway and it did not disappoint... Wind in the Willows is charming, adorable, super comfortable and well thought out.

I highly recommend a stay in this unique little haven.

“The Wind in the Willows... an ambition wonderfully fulfilled”
Staying in a Shepherd’s Hut has been a dream I have long cherished.... the Wind in the Willows was a perfect place to make that dream a reality.
It is cosy, warm and we spent two lovely nights within its walls. It is a wonderful and idylic place to rest and relax, and we enjoyed it completely... we are seriously thinking of returning, there can be no better recommendation than that.

“A Caravan made with gifted hands with love and care to give to you!”
A truly amazing experience of old time living with some modern comforts, very welcoming hosts and absolute facilities make this place one of the loveliest getaways in Norfolk.
A taste of rural - sometimes a little too much as there’s a pig farm at the rear - but our dogs Molly & Angel were literally jumping for joy most of the time (apart from the steps at first).
We will come back and admire the efforts of the traditionally tended gardens and wonders of the sea at Happisburgh, not forgetting the local bounce of Stalham folk, even the dustmen gave our dogs biscuits in the town!
Well done you, you’ve made us a haven!

“A Great Little Place To Take Your Dog Too”
Hi,
We had a 4 night stay after spending a week on The Broads.
We were made to feel very welcome by Craig on our arrival, he was very helpful and told us about the area.
We took our dog Tessa with us, who loved the freedom of the fully enclosed garden, she just couldn’t understand what the scarecrow was and growled at it constantly. Haha
Every day we did something different in the area, and The Wind in the Willows was always a welcome sight on our return, really comfy and nice and quiet.
It was fantastic to be in the countryside for nearly two weeks, a different world.
The quirkiness and good to relax, it was a great little place and even better because you can take your dogs.
Fully enclosed garden is great.

“A lovely holiday . . . ”
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Wind in the Willows. Craig and Susan were perfect hosts. The accommodation was very clean and well kept. It was a lovely quirky caravan which had lots of cleverly hidden space.
It was in a good area to do exploring of the local beaches - Happisburgh is only five mins drive away, Cromer and Sheringham approx half an hour away, and Old Hunstanton was over an hour away!
It was great for dogs as the enclosed garden meant they could roam around and we didn’t worry. I would really recommend it and look forward to our next visit to Norfolk!
The beaches!!

We are so lucky to have such a fabulous selection of sandy, easy to access, quiet and dog friendly beaches within just a few minutes’ drive of all of the properties. “A lovely place, can highly recommend to anyone looking to get away for a few days. And to those who can appreciate a simple & beautiful place to stay in...”
A really lovely place to stay. Everything done with real attention to detail, even down to colour-matching bench outside the kitchen.
A lovely place to relax, perfect glamping for me and my greyhound. I was a little worried that the hut might be too small for the hound, but actually it was absolutely fine - it probably helped that that weather was quite nice so we could spend most of the time outside. That said, it was also fine to sit indoors and eat on the little table on the evening when it rained.
The place is in a real rural location, complete with chickens in a run and farms surrounding the place. Presence of chickens and family cats meant my greyhound stayed on the lead in the garden, just didn’t want to run any risks... but that was fine, she had runs on the beach
It was also great to not have internet access, great to be forced to switch off!
Happisburgh beach was great for dog walks.
Local Gems:Beaches a little drive away, but not far. Happisburgh beach was great for dog walks.

“It’s a must-do experience ”
We both enjoyed the stay at Wind in the Willows hut, even though it was only one night.
This was a unique experience in a hut that has been refurbished to a high standard. The attention to detail is amazing and the use of space is very clever.
Normally on a weekend trip away I find I don’t really relax but here I found work was quickly forgotten and I even found myself inspired to sketch our dog with the pencils and pad provided.
Earl, our dog, enjoyed the paddock, and loved going up to the chickens and ducks adjacent.
Before we stayed there we were concerned about the space with a dog at night but found we could easily get past the large dog bed (provided) and get to the door.
The kitchen and shower room in the shed adjacent were also of a good quality and very clean.
As we were only staying one night and visiting relatives who were holidaying in Bacton we would recommend taking the dog to the sea as it’s only 5 miles away.
Local Gems:The paddock - watching the wildlife whilst having a drink of beer.
The sea - as it is quite lively, even in summer.

“A porch with a view”
Our stay was fantastic and exceeded our expectations in that we were not sure how much room we would actually have and if the dog - a medium sized Lab - would fit on the floor without being a health & safety hazard!... we need not have worried. Our hosts even provided a perfect sized dog bed which we were not expecting.
We watched Duke become the most chilled dog ever.
Wind in the Willows is set in an idyllic spot and totally self contained. The garden is secure and perfect for picnics and chilling out with a drink. It is also perfectly located for exploring Norfolk.
If you are looking for a quiet break and something that’s a bit different this could be the perfect place. You will also receive a fantastic welcome from hosts Susan and Craig. We will be going again.
Sitting in the garden or on the porch listening to the radio and watching the birds.
In the evening we saw owls and bats.
This property is ideal for couples with dogs, however if we had had bad weather it might have been hard to keep the dog dry and the hut clean. Also a very large or very lively dog in the hut might be a pain!
The steps up into the hut are fairly steep and the bed, while one of the most comfy we’ve slept in, is also quite high off the ground, so if you have mobility issues this could be a problem.
For dogs Sea Palling & Happisburgh beach, Happisburgh also has a really friendly tea room.
The Ship Inn, Mundesley for lunch.
Hickling Broad & Pleasure Boat Inn for lunch.
There is also a permissive access area to walk dogs off the lead by the community centre

Owner’s Reply:’’ Richard and Karin thank you for your enthusiastic and realistic review of Wind In The Willows, it really does help to have independent reviews like these where people can read ’tried and tested’ comments from others. Susan and Craig do work hard to make the Shepherd’s Hut and the surrounding area as charming and comfortable as they can and really do look after their guests well. Glad you want to come back. I think I might be booking in myself for a couple of nights even though I live in the same village!! No TV, no WiFi, birdsong and a beautiful garden bliss! It was lovely to meet you and Duke too as you were packing up to go. ’’ - Sue
