Summary:

“Very enjoyable and relaxing”

The conversion of the barn is very cleverly done and adds much to a stay. The furnishings are fascinating and suit the property very well, especially the antiques, paintings and the four-poster bed with Welsh tapestry hangings.

For two adults the accommodation was generous. The two dogs loved watching the wildlife in the garden as did we. A bird feeder just outside a huge window was very popular with blue tits etc. It was a thoughtful touch to hang it there. It is difficult to do justice to the views and the light in photos on the UTT website

The property was spotlessly clean and Ecover products were used throughout which is wonderful for an allergy sufferer like me.

Specifically Recommend:

The quietness.

You don’t need to leave the property to enjoy the mountains.

The changes in weather and light make the views endlessly fascinating.

Be Aware:

The setting is great for dog walking but the garden isn’t enclosed so I would be nervous if visiting with dogs in warmer months and wanting to leave the patio doors open as the surrounding fields have livestock in them. It would be ideal if they could enclose some of the garden more, maybe just the patio and top garden so that visiting dogs are secure

The staircase to the first floor is a tiny, tight spiral which would be difficult for the very young or old.

Local Gems:

Excellent crab cakes and fish and chips at Something’s Cooking, Letterson near Fishguard.

Good shopping in Cardigan, especially Howies (outdoor clothing) sale shop on the river quayside, which also has a super cafe underneath.

Dog walking on Poppit Sands is fun and the river views as you approach it are lovely

Summary:

“This property will provide you with a warm welcome and an unforgettable break in an outstanding setting”

The Under The Thatch website provides good quality photos and description. The quality of the accommodation was exceptional.

It had a real homely feel to it and the owners were very welcoming. The additional touches were particularly appreciated - fresh flowers in the rooms and Welsh Cakes in the kitchen.

The accommodation comprises a converted barn, beautifully finished with high quality materials. It is stylishly furnished with traditional furniture and a well equipped kitchen.

The under-floor heating was really effective throughout and was supplemented with a wood-burner to give it a cosy feel. The bathroom had an excellent shower and was finished in oak and slate.

We only used the wonderful four poster bed decorated with traditional Welsh textiles, but there were a further two bedrooms up the spiral staircase. The lovely textiles, ceramics and art work made the stay even more interesting.

The rooms were bathed in light and provided excellent views to the Preseli hills. A nice patio area is available in the warmer months.

Specifically Recommend:

The property, location and welcome we received were outstanding.

The owners were anxious to please and the warm welcome we received from them and their children set us up for a lovely weekend.

Be Aware:

The property is remote (which gives it, its beauty).

If you do need any groceries, stop at the Spar shop at the bottom of the hill.

Local Gems:

You should drive out to the Lily Ponds at Bosherston and take a walk to Barafundle Bay.

Newport beach provides excellent dog walking exercise.

Great meal at the Castell Hotel in Newport.
